George’s influence spreads far and wide, there can be no argument there. But many of us were amused and enthused when the noted singer Brandi Carlile borrowed one of George’s iconic images for the name of her festival this weekend.
But wait, it may not be so far-fetched. Stick with me here. Brandi Carlile famously brought out the reclusive Joni Mitchell last year at the Newport Folk Festival, and the two will again share a stage next month at The Gorge. “So what,” you ask? Well, if you visit Paisley Park outside Minneapolis to see Prince’s sprawling home / studio / museum, you will see a wall of the many many people who inspired him. Who does Prince have closest to him in terms of his primary inspirations? Jimi Hendrix, George Clinton and Joni Mitchell. Who knew, right?
Many of sighed a breath of relief when the CDC allowed the end of the U.S. public health emergency declaration on May 11, 2023. With any luck, our funky facemarks will one day only be museum artifacts or highly collectible memorabilia!
